Mearns Chick
Growing up

Mearns chick (Cyrtonyx Montezumae)

Our little Mearns is growing apace, and it hardly seems fair to call it a baby any more.

It’s still a bit too early to tell which sex it is, although it’s now developing the characteristic facial coloration, and seems very calm and not at all nervy or aggressive, like young quails of other varieties. Of course, we’re hoping that it’s a hen, as it is generally easier to find a spare cock than a spare hen.

We’ve just moved him or her into larger quarters and, so far, s/he seems to have settled in nicely. Now, the next thing is that we shall have to start thinking about trying to find a suitable partner. If anyone knows of a good quail dating agency, do get in touch!
